The time is right to join HNTB Corporation! HNTB is currently seeking a Southern California Environmental Planning Director in our Downtown Los Angeles, CA office.

Essential Responsibility

  • Plans, organizes, develops and maintains programs for efficient, productive utilization of staff in providing 4for4 client service and performance – quality, on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction on every project.

  • Responsible for all environmental aspects of projects including scope development, contract negotiations, cost control, staff management, quality control and cash management. Actively manages project budget, schedule, project communications and documentation.

  • Works internally with multiple market sector leaders to secure and manage the profitable operation of multiple projects with a focus on mega projects.

  • Attracts and effectively develops experienced staff to maximize potential, enhance strong technical credentials and solid reputation to expand our existing environmental planning capabilities and markets.

  • Plans, directs and implements an aggressive marketing program focused on certain markets in in specific geographic areas for both new and existing clients.

  • Develops and enhances client relationships and serve as a primary contact.

  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Responsibilities

  • Works to develop technical strategies and procedures for the practice.

  • Monitors and develops appropriate professional standards and the plans and metrics for quality assurance.

  • Ensures appropriate staff and other specific resources are available for support of practice opportunities.

  • Project management, team leadership, and mentoring junior-level staff.

  • Preparing studies, evaluations, NEPA and state documentation for all types and sizes of enviromental projects.

  • Maintenance of relationships with City, State, and Federal clients.

  • Business development/marketing for the environmental practice in various market sectors including highway, transit, water, energy, federal, etc.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Science, Planning or Engineering discipline

15 years of related experience in extensive business development and project management experience with various governmental agencies (cities, counties, authorities, MPOs, DOT, etc.).

15 years of related experience in Business development and hands on management of complex and multifaceted projects that followed the NEPA, SEQRA, CEQR and ULRUP process for various agencies. Must demonstrate experience in progressively responsible positions.

Preferred Qualification/Skills

Master’s Degree in Planning or related field

General Work Conditions

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
