The Student Health Services at the University of Southern California (USC) is currently seeking a Desktop Services Supervisor. The incumbent is a hands-on supervisor of operations related to desktop computing and end users, including oversight of the help desk and supervision of help desk staff and student workers; inventory, management, configuration, deployment, security and support of desktop hardware and software; development and maintenance of help desk procedures and user documentation; consultation with users on technology needs; and collaboration with Student Health Services IT Analysts and USC Information Technology Services on special projects.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Oversees the operations of the Student Health Services IT Help Desk

  • Supervises the help desk staff and its student workers

  • Provides the necessary training for department staff and end users in hardware and software

  • Manages, configures, deploys, secures, inventories and supports the desktop software and hardware of the Student Health Services

  • Develops and maintain policies, procedures and user documentation as it relates to the daily operations of the department

  • Provides consultation with end users on technological needs

  • Establishes strong professional networks with fellow IT colleagues both internally and externally within the Student Health Services and the University as a whole

  • Represent the Student Health Services in various university committees, groups and events

  • Collaborates with other members of the Student Health Services IT Team on special projects

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field


  • 2+ years of help desk support experience (preferably as a Supervisor or Lead)

  • Previous experience working in an IT role in a higher education and/or healthcare facility

  • Familiarity with HIPAA and FERPA regulations

  • Working knowledge of LANDesk Management Tools

  • Demonstrated understanding of computer networks and troubleshooting

  • Self-starter with the initiative and ability to complete tasks under minimal supervision

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Previous experience in vendor management

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience:

  • 2 years

Minimum Field of Expertise:

  • Experience in computing environments

  • Specific user support experience with operating systems, microcomputers, networks, LANs, and network software.

  • Supervisory experience.
