The Manager, External Communications protects and enhances the reputation of Disneyland Resort through proactive and reactive media relations and public affairs efforts. The manager is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of a media strategy for promoting key company image drivers including corporate citizenship efforts and business success stories, identifying, managing and mitigating current and potential issues and serving as a company spokesperson. Additionally, the manager will create and maintain relationships with media, as well as internal and external stakeholders. The manager must possess superior writing abilities; be experienced managing issues with a sense of urgency; have experience in developing and implementing social media strategies; and have a successful track record working with news media. The role requires the ability to communicate at all levels inside and outside the organization, to think strategically and operate proactively in a fast-changing business environment with tight deadlines.
Partner with stakeholders to strategically develop and implement communications strategies that mitigate issues, support business objectives, engage audiences, and protect the Resort’s reputation.
Act as a consultant, influencer and strategic thought partner to leadership and business partners to understand business communication needs and shape strategic communications.
Manage crisis situations and emerging issues with a sense of urgency, serving as a company spokesperson.
Develop and place news stories aligned with company priorities, and create reactive messaging to help manage issues.
Manage projects and write copy, press releases, fact sheets, communications plans, media messaging, and develop other vehicles and collateral as appropriate.
Develop and contribute to online/social media communication strategies including e-newsletter, Disney Parks Blog, Facebook page and website.
Serve as a member of the emergency communication team, and share in the 24/7 on-call duties.
Basic Qualifications :
Minimum 6-8 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, crisis communications, issue management
Demonstrated experience working with news media
Demonstrated strong partnering skills
Demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to multitask and drive projects through to completion
Demonstrated strong writing and editing skills
Demonstrated ability to perform tasks independently and lead projects
Demonstrated familiarity with social media communications
Demonstrated strong verbal and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications :
- Bilingual Spanish skills (written and verbal)
Required Education :
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or equivalent work experience
